About The School
Seven Hills School - A Great Place to Learn; A Great Place to Grow
Seven Hills School is a fourth through eighth grade school that serves the students in Nevada City and surrounding areas. Seven Hills School has a strong academic reputation, balanced with an exciting enrichment program that supports students' academic and personal interests. The fourth, fifth and sixth grades are self contained with students moving during the day to math and enrichment classes. In the seventh and eighth grade, students have a homeroom teacher, who serves as their first period teacher. After homeroom students move throughout the day to math, science, PE and Humanities (English/Language Arts and history). Humanities is a two period core program that focuses on English Language Arts instruction and the history being studied at that grade level. Seventh graders study the Medieval and Renaissance time periods. Eighth graders study United States history beginning with the founding of the colonies and moving through the Civil War and Reconstruction. All five grade levels have major academic projects that focus on the history curriculum. The fifth graders do a States Project. The sixth graders participate in the Tour Across America. The seventh graders have a simulation history event titled the Medieval Feast. The eighth graders will take the Constitution test, do a research project on Civil War, attend the State Capitol as well as studying Government. Other subject area projects occur in science, math and P.E. Elective offerings include Art, Band, Bike Recycle Program, Health, Leadership, Spanish, STEAM and Yearbook.
There are many ways for parents and community volunteers to be involved. Opportunities include: volunteering through the Parent Student Teacher Club (PSTC), being a member of the Seven Hills Site Council, stepping forward as a classroom volunteer tutor, assisting a sports team, helping supervise at lunch, teaching an after school enrichment class or a variety of other important roles.
